Happy Friday!
Hello, all. It’s Friday, and you have powered through your week likely completing piles of paperwork, laundry, dishes, and errands. Now what? Relax? Hmmm… well, maybe? Yet, we find more to occupy the time we should be resting.
For example, as a new mom to a newborn, a common expression shared among mothers is to, “Sleep when your baby sleeps.” “Excuse me?” I would often think, as I am sure many mothers would agree, that this was a time for showering, cleaning the house, catching up on work, or chatting with loved ones. The term, “Rest,” was not an option.
However, as our lives fast forward past these years, we find that new responsibilities have replaced the old ones, and we fall back into the cycle of not relaxing. We find no time to provide a small respite for ourselves to recharge and reestablish a fruitful and meaningful relationship with Christ. Not to mention, your children and loved ones will appreciate your reconnection with them as they too may need to be reminded to relax.
As we approach the weekend, the Ten Commandments remind us to keep the Sabbath Day Holy. However, where does one begin? Fittingly, I encourage you to make adjustments, reevaluate your rest time, and prioritize your spiritual and familial relationships.
Where to start?
Practice a quick or extended morning/bedtime prayer in a quiet space.
Read scripture.
Go to Adoration and simply sit (listen to the voice of God). Ask, “How may I serve you, Lord?”
Pray and eat meals as a family.
Note: These are simply a few suggestions. You may become more creative as you increase your awareness in your spiritual development.
Prayer: Lord, give me the wisdom to pause my busyness and refocus my heart on you and to all you have blessed me with. Let me never forget the many blessings that you have bestowed upon me regardless of my weariness. Reignite me with praise and thanksgiving. Amen. by Isabel Anderson
