Monday Woes:

When I worked in an office, trapped within a cubicle, there was a picture of a stick figure drained and hunched over on Monday and slowly straightening itself out each day. By Friday it was fully upright and joyous, but by then it was time to leave work. It was funny, and for the most part realistic. Generally, it’s believed that most of us feel the Monday woes of returning to the usual work or school routines, but by Friday we are fully energized.

I thought, why not apply that same stick figure image in our morning practice with Christ and see if our energy levels change daily. Generally, I am like the drained stick figure as I rise in the morning, as I go throughout my morning of prayer, meditation, and readings, I feel myself straightening out slowly and feeling joyous. I truly am reenergized by the word and prayer. Moreover, I ask Christ, “How do you want me to serve You today?” And, I find that each day my question is answered by helping those less fortunate, lonely, or in need of spiritual guidance.

Suggestion: Simply, get to know your routine.

Finding time for prayer with Christ that works best for you and making it a priority will create a whole new perspective on your Mondays or any day of the week for that matter. If you are a morning person, an earlier wake up time will allow for morning prayer. If you are a night person, take the time before bed to relax, reflect, and reenergize before the start of a new day.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am forever grateful for the many blessings you have bestowed upon me. Let me learn to energize myself with your word and through prayer so that I may give myself wholly towards serving others. In your name, we pray. Amen. Isabel Anderson
